The demo title `Ranzige Smeerlapperij' translates to `Rancid Filth'. Its meaning refers both to the filthy black metal itself and peat mining, which is the main theme of the lyrics. 'Het Zielige Bestaan Van De Magerman' describes the hard and pathetic life of a skinny guy called 'De Magerman'. In the middle ages, he was responsible for a part of the canal system of Nieuwmoer, used to transport peat on boats. The place 'Magerman' can be found on maps dating back to the 16th century. Still, a street in Nieuwmoer bears the name 'Maggermannenstraat'. The second track is a parody on the name of the catholic parish 'Onze Lieve Vrouw Ten Hemel Opgenomen', i.e., the holy assumption of Mary. Consult the lyrics in the booklet if you can't control your curiosity, you dirty fellow! 'Jaan Den Turfsteker' honors the life of a gigantic legendary peat cutter. His hands and face were filthy, like this demo ... The cover depicts the church of Nieuwmoer, pre-1910.

`Ranzige Smeerlapperij' received a score of 75/100 at Black Metal Review. Check out the review here.
